Etz Haim Hee / Tree of Life

Tanchum Portnoy / Liturgy

This is traditional Jewish liturgy.  This is a more upbeat version I learned from the ladies in the band, "Tofa'ah". I'm not sure who composed this version. However, many versions are sung in synagogues today.

About the original version:

This liturgy is sung in many synagogues whilst putting away the Sefer Torah. The composer is Tanchum Portnoy. You can hear the original recording on youtube here. It is from his long-lost LP "Tanchumim", recorded during 1974 and released February 1975. The vocalist is Avraham Yanon; arrangements were by Yisroel Lamm. Long out of print.

Etz Haim Hee / Tree of Life

Eits chayim hi lamachazikim ba,
Vetomecheha me-ushar.

Deracheha - d'rechei no-am,
Vechol netivotecha shalom…

Hashiveinu Adonai eilecha v'nashuva

Chadeish chadeish yameinu k'kedem
Chadeish chadeish yameinu k'kedem…
A tree of life to those who hold fast to it, and all who cling to it find happiness.

Its ways are ways of pleasantness,
and all its paths are peace.

Help us and guide us, inspire us and provide us - With the wisdom Your Torah can show.
